An SKU is your own stock-keeping reference for identifying a product. It is useful for matching orders, stock and your own records, and should be unique to the item or variation it represents.

For a Variable product, the parent product can have an optional SKU and each variation can have its own SKU. When you duplicate a product, Light Ideas resets unique identifiers such as the SKU so the new listing can be given the correct reference.
